Tag Team

I've been doubly tagged by CyberPete and Tara on the same day to do the following two memes. I think I've done these before, but they're still fun.

Here are the Rules:

1. Link to the person who tagged you

*It's the fantastic, fashion forward CyberPete who tagged me.

2. Post the rules on your blog

*Done.

3. Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself

*(1). Hello. My name is Eroswings, and I'm a gameaholic.

I've been video game free for--looks at clock--12 hours now. I've been addicted to video games since middle school. I knew I had a problem in the 8th grade when I played Tetris on a Gameboy for 11 hours straight. I only stopped because the batteries died! I had to fake an illness that morning so I wouldn't go to school--I had not done any homework because of my Tetris experience.

Years ago, I had to give up my new Playstation 2 after playing with it for only a month. I spent every night and weekend glued to the screen playing Tekken. I stayed indoors, living off of pizza, Mountain Dew, and pop tarts. My friends actually held a quasi-intervention at the end of that month. They noticed an inversely proportional relationship between the alcohol surplus at weekend parties and my absence. The longer I was absent from the parties, the more there was of unconsumed alcoholic beverages. It was a wake up call for me--but a nice break for my liver. Still, I had cramps in my hands, my back and neck hurt, and the chair had the permanent imprint of my body! I had to get a new chair after that, and I sent the Playstation to my nieces and nephews. Since then, I've not own a gaming console. It would be too much of a distraction and I know I'd be hooked again. I like having a life; though, I still find myself playing online video games when I'm up late at night sometimes.

*(2). I don't mind doing the laundry and ironing.

Sundays are usually laundry days. I like the smell of clean clothes as I fold them, such a relaxing, blissful scent, and that warm feeling on your hands feels so good, especially on cold days! I like the look of crisp clothes after I iron them. I know I'll look sharp when I put them on.

*(3). I listen to classical music when I clean.

All those images of open meadows and flowers and sunshine puts me in the cleaning mood! My favorite is Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D major. When I hear it, I feel like doing the waltz with my mop! Maybe it's because I'm inhaling too much Pine-Sol. Or maybe it's just an incredible, moving piece of music.

Listen to this youtube link, and see why I like it--Right click on link and open in new tab. Sounds very uplifting and clean and beautiful, doesn't it?

Want a more modern rock guitar version? Check this out! Cool, huh?

*(4). I don't untie my shoelaces when I take my shoes off.

Actually, I keep my shoelaces tied most of the time, except for dress shoes. The dress shoes I keep untied and only tie the laces when I wear them. The running shoes I keep the laces tied up, double knotted so that they don't come undone. When I take the everyday shoes off, I just slip my feet out of them. When I put them back on, I just slip my feet in them without untying the laces. I just like it that way. It feels right, somehow.

*(5). Before I go to sleep, I pick out what I'm going to wear the next day.

I'm not a morning person, and I'm really sluggish when I wake up. I take a lot time to get dressed because I move so slow. Luckily, by setting out clothes the night before, I all ready know what I'm going to wear. That saves me time in the morning. I even pick out a back up set just in case the weather or plans for the day change.

*(6). I'm somewhat of an old fashioned guy.

I still open doors for women. I give up my seat for the elderly, the ladies, and the children. I like to pay for dinner when in the company of women (be it a date or just a meal with friends). Though, I've had female friends protest when I pick up the bill, I usually tell them they'll pay for the next time we eat out. Usually though, I try to take the check before they can take it the next time we eat out; but I've had to respect a woman's firm decision to pick up the tab. I still stand up from my seat when I greet my date or when she leaves and returns to the table. And I still use "Sir" or "Ma'am" when greeting and conversing with people. Though, I've met some women who bristle at the term "Ma'am", but it's just an old customary greeting to show respect to a woman. It has nothing to do with age, and it's pretty common in the South and West to greet women with such a term of respect and high esteem.

It's very confusing to be a man these days. Sometimes, a courteous gesture is misinterpreted as disrespectful or perhaps an ulterior motive. Sometimes, a friendly disposition is mistaken for being interested in something much more. But, you just have to be more aware and learn from every experience. You just have to be who you are and take care of yourself (and the people who are important to you) as best you can.

4. Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs

*Eh, I won't tag anybody. Just feel free to do these if you feel like it :)

5. Let each random person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website

*Again, I won't tag anyone, but please feel free to let me know if you do these :)

6. Let your tagger know when your entry is up.

*Done

This next one is from the terrific, talented Tara.

You have to answer one word questions, but not necessarily with one word answers!

1. Clothes: Do not make the man!

All you have to do now,
Is take these lies and make them true somehow
All we have to see,
Is that I don't belong to you
And you don't belong to me
Yeah, yeah

Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!
You got to give for what you take.
Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!
You got to give for what you take.

Lately, this George Michael song has been on my mind. That Freedom! 90 video is awesome with all the supermodels. And I think this is my favorite George Michael song.

2. Furniture: Living room.

3. Sweet: Things ;)

4. City: Life

5. Drink: Water

I know, right? I actually prefer water to quench my thirst. Then sweet iced tea. I very rarely even drink soda, because it doesn't quench my thirst. It's been over a decade since I was a regular soda drinker!

6. Music: Lover

I luv music (and the arts)! My fantastic geometry teacher (and coach) once said that music is the universal language. And music is math we can all enjoy. He was so right.

7. TV Series: Favorite

I've a few tv series that I like (and miss). Recently, they've started running 3rd Rock from the Sun on TV land. One of the funniest shows I've ever seen--about aliens, coming to Earth, studying humans, and making funny observations about our ways and culture.

I'm big on creative, fun, weird and new, smart series, like Burn Notice--about a spy who got dropped (burned) by the US gov't, and now he's trying to find out why, dealing with all sorts of characters and adventures in Miami. There's a lot of good stuff on tv...maybe too much good stuff.

8. Film: Festival

I luv film festivals, be it about new, independent movies, or celebrations of the old, black and white films of a bygone age. I saw "It happened one night" for the first time at a black and white film festival, and I luved that movie since then! It was funny, engaging, and launched the most iconic hitchhiking scenes ever filmed. Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert were amazing in that film. And it sparked my interest in the silver screen gems of the old, glamorous Hollywood.

I like originality and creativity in films. I enjoy fresh or alternative perspectives to the same old movie plots at the local movie theater. Still, there is a time and place for those cheesy, predictable movies as well.

9. Workout: Time

It means setting aside a time to work out; workouts take time; and by doing the workout, you're actually trying to buy more time, by maybe living a little longer, a little stronger, a little wiser.

10. Pastries: Tasty.

Seriously, who doesn't think pastries are tasty?

11. Coffee: Donut ;)

Mmmmmm....donut

And there you have it. I'm not going to tag anyone to do either of these, but if you do, just let me know. That way, I can come read all about you!

  1. LUV that guitar version! Rocked my socks off, Eros - how very cool is that kid! Thanks for that one...;-)

Wow, that's quite the gaming addiciton. Glad you have it under control and know your limitations.

  2. You qualify as houseboy material for Mistress MJ.

    *tosses dirty knickers at Eros*

Iron them while you're at it.

  3. So you are trying to get your nieces and nephews addicted to gaming - nice! *grins* Sweet, sweet gesture, really. I am considering selling my PSP to my brother so he can give it to my nephew. I want a Wii.

Apparently you are either not drinking Sprite or haven't read the label. "Thirst quencher"

Thanks for doing the meme. I always love to read what other people put in them.

  4. Freakishly we could be attitude twins Mr E , with a few differences .
1.Gaming , I cant play computer games at all , I am so uncoordinated I feel like I am going to have some sort of fit after about 10 minutes , and then cant sleep for hours afterwards.I karate trained with the western hemisphere's No 1 Gojo ryu Sensei for a few years, my shocking uncoordination used to nearly make the poor man weep :-)
    2. Cleaning Music for the Beast has to be some percusion heavy thrash disco/drum n bass/dance or somesuch and Swing for cooking .
    Excellent post

  5. um... MJ? I do believe I am the one in need of a houseboy... since last night I was overcome by fumes whilst cleaning the toilet so the freakin' cat could have a drink of clean water!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Eros is obviously still trying to scrape Miss MJ's putrid knickers off the floor :-)

  7. On Meme 1: You've got a good idea there with setting clothes out the night before. I'm so bad at that. This morning I had to get up earlier and the dress I did plan on got something on it when I was trying to iron it a bit. Thankfully I did have another outfit to throw on. But I don't usually thing that far ahead.

On meme 2: I love George Michael, I try not to think of the drama he's brought on himself throughout the years, because he is so talented.

Third Rock from the Son is a funny show. I sat down and watched an episode one night. The whole cast is so funny.

  8. Ponygirl, that is an awesome guitar version! When it comes to addictions or too much of a good thing, my body pretty much knows its limits...and I'm reminded horribly of what happens when I don't listen to my body.

MJ, laundry days are Sunday! Please note that NAFTA rules and immigration laws are not conducive to issuing work visas for housekeepers at this time. And I don't iron underwear!

CP, I always preferred Mountain Dew above all sodas--purely for the wired effect and supersweet flavor.

Ya know, ha, ha; I actually deleted a paragraph from my post where I talked about what happened after I sent my PS2 to my nieces and nephews. About a month later, I was talking to my sister on the phone and she was complaining about her kids poor test scores and failure to do chores. She blamed me!

She said since I sent the PS2, the kids have ignored their chores and done a poor job of homework, failing their tests. All they did was play PS 2--I had sent it with extra new games :) Earlier in the week, she took away the PS2 and put in her bedroom. Then she said during the night, she woke up to get a drink of water. When she walked by the living room, she saw flashing lights. Upon investigating, she found her kids playing PS2 with the sound off! They had snuck into the bedroom and took out the PS2. Boy, did they get in serious trouble and some serious hardcore punishment! And oh, I apologized and laughed as my sister cussed me out.

But after meting out her justice, the kids shaped up. I can relate, because my sister was a mean, terrible baby sitter. I can only imagine the horror she unleashed upon her mutinous children. Heh, heh; I'm still their favorite uncle ;)

Beast, that's too funny! I, too, took a karate lesson, but I had such a hard time understanding the instructor with his heavy accent! Then a friend of mine took me to his Mixed Martial Arts class and tried to get me to join. That day, they were practicing ground defense, with one guy grinding on top of the other. I told my friend afterwards that I wasn't interested, 'Hey, if I wanted to get dry humped, I could get that in a club with drink or just take the public transport system!'

I listen to dance/pop/rock/hip hop anything fast, upbeat music when I'm cooking!

Ponygirl, the things you do for your cat. Can't she just drink out of a regular bowl like the dog? Well, at least you've got one chore done.

Beast, the border patrol has seized and destroyed the said knickers for illegally attempting to cross the border without proper permits.

Tara, ha.ha., having clothes laid out the night before helps me leave on time the next day :) What a relief to know you had a back up set just in case!

I luv some of George Michael's songs. That's so true about his drama. It's sad because so many famous, talented people often succumb to drugs and alcohol. And you're so right about the cast from 3rd Rock; they're a hilarious ensemble!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I love #rd Rock fromt he Sun! Especially John Lithgow.

Did you ever see the movie "The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai Across the 8th Dimension"? He is in it as a totally mad scientist - it is a scream! I love watching that film - have seen it multiple times.

    ReplyDelete
  10. hah! I knew it!

The kids are quite resourceful these days. Brilliant.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ponygirl, I may have to keep an eye out for that movie. That whole 3rd Rock from the Sun ensemble was hilarious and talented!

CP, they were sneaky but they got caught and paid dearly. The lesson they learned was either listen to mom or become stealthier and don't get caught! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  12. That guitar version of Canon in D major was awesome!

I love that you're a proper gentleman - It makes me a little weak at the knees. And that you're organised enough to pick out the next day's clothes. I end up falling into the wardrobe and wearing whatever looks least hideous.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Probably the second option!

I bought a Nintendo Wii on Friday. I am loving that although the games are a bit pricey

    ReplyDelete
  14. IDV, thanks.
*Offers chair for IDV to sit and rest his weak knees*

There are times when I feel outdated for being courteous, but being a class act is always in style.

If I didn't have clothes picked out all ready, I'd be late every morning--which happened a lot in college, esp for those awful, unavoidable morning classes!

CP, if they're smart enough, they might get away with some things ;) But I feel sorry for them when they get caught; my sister was a mean, awful, ruthless babysitter. She tortured us and made our lives hell for disobeying her when she was in charge.

I can never buy a Wii; at parties, I've played with them when it was some karaoke or dance game, but I can never sit down and play video games--I'd never leave the party! But I'm so glad to hear you're having fun with it! The Wii is Weeeeeee!!!! Fun!

    ReplyDelete
  15. It definately is! I love playing tennis and golf on it. I also got a Tony Hawk game which is quite entertaining.

In other words IDV tries to avoid the orange but it's the only thing he can see un those dark English mornings.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ah, that explains it! Well, I suppose orange is better than neon green.

So glad to hear you're enjoying the Wii!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh, how I envy you! Lucky, lucky you!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I do have a PSP I no longer have any use for. *winks*

    ReplyDelete
  19. Don't tempt me! I may never recover should I fall back into old habits.

    ReplyDelete
  20. it wouldn't work anyway as your games are ntsc and ours are pal. Also you have weird power plugs.

    ReplyDelete
  21. * I didn't think you'd be a gamer. Fun to find out these facts.

    * I get so offended when a guy insists on paying. Men only did that traditionally because women didn't have paid work. The other stuff I like as common courtesy

    * I adore George Michael. Freedom is a great song - both versions. I'll have to look up the video on youtube as I've never seen it

    * I'm with you on Film Festivals. They are great fun. It's odd because I rarely go to movies.

    * I'd forgotten about Third Rock. That was hilarious. I didn't see every episode, but the ones I saw I liked.

    ReplyDelete
  22. CP, and here I thought it was the rest of the world that had weird power plugs! It's a good thing then that I can't use your PSP; the universe has sent me a sign: Stay away from gaming consoles!

Snooze, oh, I think the women paid in a different way for dinner on dates...some still pay the old fashioned way ;P

I'll admit, it took me a while to get used to letting a woman pick up the tab, but it's their choice and I fully support it. In fact, I fully support a rich woman fully supporting me after we get divorced ;) Forget happily ever after; I want to divorce rich!

Ha, I rarely go to movies, too, but I luv film festivals.
