Buzz Kill

I hate mosquitoes. I hate the buzzing sound they make. I hate the itchy welts they leave behind after sucking the blood from my body. And I hate how these filthy insects spread disease!

The puddles left over from the flooding have become spawning grounds for these blood suckers. That means I become a buffet for these disgusting critters the minute I step out of the house. I'm one of those people who attracts mosquitoes. I could be in the middle of a crowd and still be the one with the most bites. I've read studies that people who drink alcohol attract more mosquitoes than the non drinkers. But long before I even drank alcohol, I remember being bitten by more mosquitoes than any other kid in the neighborhood.

My friends tease me for being a mosquito magnet. I tell them that they're just jealous. It's not my fault I was born with such silky, soft skin and that my blood is so tasty. I should count myself lucky that I've not been attacked by vampires.

Still, I'm keeping some wooden stakes, in case Buffy or Faith can't get here in time to save me from a vamp attack.

I hate wearing insect repellent, but it's the only thing that works. Once I tried Avon's Skin So Soft; within ten minutes, mosquito bites made my soft skin look like something from a biblical plague. So, I've got to keep using the insect repellents or risk looking deformed or ending up with some deadly disease.

Besides, these aren't just regular mosquitoes I'm dealing with now. These are Texas size mosquitoes. HUGE! And they fly real slow like they've got nothing to worry about. One landed on my arm recently, and I smacked it. It fell off, but then it got back up and started flying again! I had to smack it much harder to kill the bastard! It's a wonder they haven't carried me away! Though, I sometimes think I may need a blood transfusion after seeing the amount they suck from my body.

  1. Eeeeps! Now I itch all over.

    *shudders*

I attract them too, but as I take my allergy pills for pollen in the summer I hardly feel them.

Before I developed a pollen allergy I looked like I had some sick boil plague

  2. CP, I wish I could take some pills to keep 'em off me, but for now, the insect repellent seems to be the only thing that works. In a few days, the city'll start spraying the area with insecticide...mosquito annihilation!

  3. Would you like us to rub the repellent into your skin for you?

  4. I second that Eros. In July 1991 I ended up in hospital for four days. It was the first time that I've been caught by a mosquito, it was just below my knee. The pain the redness that went down to my ankle and up to my thigh. The swelling was hideous and you couldn't even see where my knee was.Connie took me to the hospital where he left me with his two brothers as he had to go to work. I have the fun of vanishing vains so the Dr couldn't get any blood from either arm. In the end he had to take it from my groin. After my four day stay I was able to come home looking like a junky as my arms were so bruised and battered. Couple days later the little bastards got me again but this time it was two bites on my foot and that swelled up like a water ballon. Oh the fun I had that week. I don't have problems as such with them anymore (thank God).
Get some citrinela candles and that should keep them away. Get a Aloe Vera plant so when you get a bite cut a tiny bit of the plant, split it in half and place it on the bite with a band aid.

  5. MJ, I may need some help with those hard to reach places; a helping hand is always welcomed when I need to scratch an itch...

Tatas, holy crap! It's a miracle you survived that! It's bad enough they caused pain and swelling that put you in the hospital; then the treatment is difficult because it's hard to get your veins! It's a good thing you don't get a bad reaction like that anymore. I'm going to take your tip on the aloe. I do use those citronella candles and I'm going to spray the outside walls with some insecticide! I saw a small army of them perched on the wall by the front door, just waiting to ambush me when I come out!

  6. You always find the best photos to accompany your posts. Thank you for the yummy pics of Buffy and Faith. You should get them to bite you. I'm sure they would suck more than your blood...

  8. This year is bad for insects. Last year I only got a few bites. This year, everywhere I turn I've got a little mosquito-induced welt on my arms, hands or legs. My mom was attacked by them recently. She takes a med that thins her blood. We were joking that that's why they liked her so much. She was easy.

  10. I sure was lucky Eros. Where Connie used to live there were boggy marshes they must have come over from France lol they love the British. It took about five hours before they could get a vain to put in a intravenous drip as they needed to get the drugs into my system really fast. It wasn't long before the sickness and dizziness went. I'm still here to tell the tale.

  11. Tara, lately I've been feeling like an Egyptian and Moses is out to get me with a plague of mosquitoes!

Beast, the flies don't have a preference for me, but I'll gladly shoo the flies away for the lunch you'll prepare for us :)

Tatas, thank goodness you're still with us. Thankfully, you got antibx in time to make you feel better. I worry about the West Nile Virus the mosquitoes carry; seems to be popping up in these parts lately.

  12. I hear that an Axe spray deodorant and a lighter is quite good too.
